SUMMERTIME

It is the countdown. It starts today. Can you guess? Kids count it down beginning in September. It is officially the last day of school. Can you believe it? It just does not seem possible. Were they really in school already for a full school year? I begin to question myself, but realize that yes, it is that special time of year once again. Summer will officially begin for kids this afternoon.

I am brought back to my own memories when I was young and how excited my brothers and I would become at the last day of school. We would pack up the car and head to our summer place at Beaver Lake in Derry, NH. The joy in our faces and happiness we felt when we hit our destination. Only than did we feel like summer had begun. Bike riding, swimming, flashlight hide-and-go seek, were just a few of the many things that occupied our time during our great escape. Unfortunately, I also have many memories of my bouts with poison ivy.

I can only imagine how the kids today will be. Making summer plans, cooking out, swimming, slip and slides, sprinklers, are just a few of the things all kids look forward to. Summer is a time for no schedules and being spontantous. It is a time for fun and games, no matter what your age. Lets all have that inner-child in all of us surface, if only for a short visit. Enjoy your summer!!
